Neal is a lost and vulnerable man, who is desperate to find a place he belongs. Neal hasn't even been in Storybrooke long enough to feel a connection, even if his son is there.
He finds it hard to trust people, due to incidents and people in his past, where people have broken the little trust he'd given them.
Neal, despite everything he's been through is self-less in everything he does. With all of his actions being for others before himself. Mainly his son Henry when he sacrificed himself twice.

FRIENDS:
Friends are hard for Neal to make, due to being the son of the Dark One. This had made his friends choices limited, since everyone isolated him because of his father.Once he left the Forest, it was even harder for him to make friends because of the trust issues he had with people. Even when he'd managed to make a few friends he'd struggled to hold onto them. Now being here in Storybrooke, hopefully he can make friends and keep them for good.
When it comes to Neal, it's hard for him to trust, but, as long as you have a good and kind heart then you will probably be considered a friend.
ENEMIES:
Being the son of the Dark One has brought him a few enemies throughout his life. Mostly people using him to get to his father, or as a weapon against him.It was something he'd gotten sick of over time, but, it seemed to stop after he left the Enchanted Forest, until he got to Neverland, before stopping again once he landed back in this world. Gaining one or two enemies for other reasons.
Mainly anyone who causes harm to the people he cares about, especially Henry is consider an enemy of Neal/Baelfire.
LOVERS:
Love is one thing he's struggled to feel. But, the first real person that ever got past his walls was Emma Swan. He found himself being able to completely let her in. But, once again it was taken away from him due to Emma having a destiny to break the curse that was over Storybrooke.Neal then later opened himself up to Tamara, and, the two of them became engaged to be married. But, once again Neal gets his heart broken, when she turns out to be using him the whole time.
Now Neal isn't focused so much on finding a lover, as reuniting with his family. It would take a lot to get past his walls and let him feel that kind of love again.
